The International Outgoing Fellowship for Career Development aims at funding experienced researchers (in general post docs) doing research in a country outside the EU member states or associated countries. Eligible is a stay of 12 to 24 months performing individual projects of researchers out of a EU member state or associated country. A 12 months return phase has to follow in a research institution in a EU member state or associated country. The actions aims at acquiring additional research skills abroad, transfer these tot he ERA and enhance the researcher’s own positioning in Europe.

In general researchers from within the EU or associated countries can apply. Next to their PhD the applicants have to prove at least four years of experience in their field. Researchers of non-European nationality have to live or work during the past five years within the EU or an associated country to be eligible. The participants may not have lived more the 12 months in the country of the host institution during three years previous the deadline of the call. They apply together with a host institution in an EU member state or associated country, which will host them in the return phase.

The grants runs for 24-36 months and covers for the salary of the researcher, research and travel are party eligible for funding. On top, the host and partner institution’s indirect cost are partly funded.

Filing a proposal is only possible referring to one of the specific Calls which are published on the European Commission’s Participant Portal. The call is bottom-up, meaning open topic and open for all areas of research.
