Research of the Federal Administration

With its research, the Swiss Federal Administration initiates research projects that are conducted mainly by universities or private enterprises. The applied research is usually of interdisciplinary nature and shall support the Government in its mission to deal with societal issues based on scientific knowledge. In its strategic function, the Research of the Federal Administration contributes to the definition of the Confederation’s political orientation. As the research areas are highly diversified, these projects are open to representatives of almost every discipline.

The Federal Administration conducts approximately one third of the research activities (including the agricultural research stations). The remaining two thirds are implemented by the ETH Domain, by universities and universities of applied sciences, by non-profit organisations (NPOs) and by international programmes as well as by the cantons and communities.
